We made it, guys. It’s Wednesday, which means the two hardest days of the week are over! High Five.
Before leaving for work this morning, Andrew and I took a moment to take a tour of our garden and inspect the progress of our various plants.
(One of our two sunflowers, looking good.)
(The other, larger sunflower, shot up close and personal, looking like something out of National Geographic.)
(Two new sprouts in our garden: squash on the left, and a mystery pepper on the right.)
(Last season, we had a small tomato plant on the ledge above this garden bed, and from time to time baby tomatoes would fall off the plant into this area. Those discarded tomatoes apparently planted themselves and we now have a tomato hedge that will soon be dripping with cherry tomatoes.)
(Beautiful flower that sprouted out of a nearly dead succulent.)
Ok, back to business…
Monday night’s workout was 30 minutes on the elliptical followed by some arm strength training. It’s amazing how many exercises one can do with a simple pair of 8 lb. weights.
Dinner was a Chicken Caesar Salad, with homemade dressing and croutons. We used iceberg lettuce, because it was leftover from lettuce wraps a few nights ago and needed to be eaten, but I’d probably use romaine for this recipe in the future.
Caesar Salad Dressing
3/4 c olive oil
1/4 c red wine vinegar
1/3 c grated Parmesan cheese (I used pecorino)
1 T worcestershire sauce
1 T mayo or 1 egg yoke (I used mayo)
1 t mustard
2 cloves garlic (I used garlic powder)
Salt & Pepper to taste
Combine all ingredients in a glass jar. Tightly screw on lid and SHAKE well. Easy.
After dinner, Andrew showed me this site, which kept me entertained for HOURS. It’s called “Incredibox” and it will rock your wold. Mixing and matching combinations of vocal melodies, beats, and sound effects to create JAM-worthy music is such a brilliant idea. I could not tear myself away, and I’m too afraid to check out the site at work because I know I’ll never get anything done.
Tuesday started with a glass of hot water with lemon.
And a cup of bulletproof coffee once I got to work. A group of friends wanted to go to lunch together, but not until 1pm. I usually am ready for lunch at 12:00pm exactly, so some cherries had to hold me over the extra hour.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: summer fruit is ON FIRE right now. Not only are the peaches and nectarines consistently sweet and juicy, but plums, pluots, cherries, apricots, and strawberries are all at the top of their game, too.
Tuesday night was a core workout at the gym. It went something like this:
Core + Cardio
5 mins jump rope (warm up)
60 second plank
30 second side plank (each side)
60 second plank
10 alternating side plank pushups with 5 lb weight
20 alternating knee tucks in plank
60 second plank
15 mins walk/jog/run progression
As I was tying my shoes in the locker room, I started thinking about gym bags. Mine is admittedly minimalistic, but all I really need it for is a towel, notebook, ipod, extra hair ties, and a lock.
It’s not big enough for much else, and there are no zipper compartments. The one time I went to the gym straight from work and tried to stuff a change of clothes into my gym bag was hilarious. Maybe when this one falls apart (as this type inevitably always does), I’ll replace it with something a little more… substantial.
After the gym, Andrew and I quickly made “Breakfast for Dinner” knowing that we had a big night of important TV ahead.
(Classic “A Team” Scrambler: TJ’s frozen potato patty, onion, broccoli, pepper)
As everyone is surely aware, Tuesday nights mean Extreme Weight Loss. EWL is easily one of my favorite shows. Chris Powell is one of the most motivating trainers out there and he has such a genuine interest in his clients. His wife, Heidi, is maybe even tougher than he is! She’s’ also driven, beautiful, and the list goes on. The Powells are one dynamic duo, that’s for sure. Needless to say, Andrew and I never skip the gym on Tuesdays thanks to these two. And BRUCE! What is there even to say about Bruce, other than Best Contestant Ever! That guy will go far. Such a great attitude. He’s pumped on life!
You know how you tell yourself that watching 3 hours of TV at night is okay because you’ll be productive and do things like stretch, foam roll, paint your nails while you’re doing it? And then you just don’t? Yeah, me too.
High Fives all around,
