Doing a cleanse when you're under the weather

Doing A Cleanse When You’re Sick

Now that I’ve finally admitted it to myself, I guess I can let you guys in on it, too… I’m sick. Not terribly sick, just under the weather with a head cold-sick.

Sick Day Couch Setup

I’ve had a weird throat feeling for the past week or so, and Sunday (Day One of the Magic Cleanse) it turned into a sore throat with a side of raging headache. It was the type of headache where your temples throb and your eyes water. I was a hot, coughing mess.

I have no idea why I was so resistant at first, but Andrew finally convinced me to take a bath and it was life changing. Everything was right with the world in that bath, and I refused to get out until the water was borderline chilly.

So now you know, there was an ulterior motive behind that relaxing bath I took to kick off Day One of the Cleanse.

A Glitch in the Plan

I was really hoping this head cold would pass, you guys. It does not bode well for optimal cleanse results. To me, a cleanse is an experiment, and I didn’t particularly like the thought of junking up this experiment by adding Excedrin and Advil to the list of supplements I’m taking this week.

But here’s the funny part. Even though every four hours the Advil wears off and my head starts to feel like it’s going to explode and I have an uncontrollable coughing fit, the rest of my body from the neck down feels 100% amazing. Digestion is working well, no achiness at all, no food aversions or cravings. Energy levels are even good, factoring in the loss of a couple good hours of sleep due to middle-of-the-night-coughing-fits.

To Cleanse Or Not To Cleanse

If I was doing a stricter cleanse, I would have probably called it off when I realized I was dealing with a sore throat. But with the Magic Cleanse, aka the Cheap DIY Clean Copy-Cat Cleanse, I’m really not depriving my body of any calories, nutrients, or fiber that it needs. I’m on a very sustainable seven-day plan.

So I’m not eating sugar, dairy, gluten, or caffeine this week. I have a hard time believing that any of those items would do anything but make my sore throat worse.

I think it says a lot that even though my head has a cold, my body feels so great. If that’s not a sales pitch for the Magic Cleanse, I don’t know what is! And for the record, I do feel a bit better today, thanks to a full on rest day yesterday.

Happy Tuesday, everyone.

What do you guys think? Would you keep going with a cleanse if you came down with a cold?
