Parker Mesa Overlook Hike

Hi there! How are you? How was your weekend?

Andrew and I are still in training mode for our upcoming camping trip, so we made sure to fit in a couple hikes this weekend, along with an epic dance party that felt like an endurance workout.

Baldwin Hills Stair Hike v2

Friday morning, we did the Baldwin Hills stair hike for the second time. Only this time, we picked up our pace on the uphill climb and rather than taking the stairs up and the hill path down like last time, we took the stairs down this time, too.

Turns out descending a steep set of stairs is not my strong suit, but something that will definitely come up on our hike down into Havasupai Falls, so Baldwin Hills is a good practice route.

Soul Slam at the Echoplex

Friday night, Andrew and I met up with our friend Aanan after dinner to check out “Soul Slam”, a Prince vs. Michael Jackson dance party series at the Echoplex in Eco Park. Yes, you read that correctly and it was everything we could have possibly hoped it would be, music and dancing-wise.

It was also packed, hot, and sweaty. I’m not exaggerating when I say the ceiling was dripping with condensation. Luckily, it didn’t bother us enough to stop the dancing. Oh man, it was a fun night… that pretty much knocked us out for the entirety of Saturday.

Parker Mesa Overlook Trail

By Sunday we were back up to speed, so we decided to try a new-to-us hike in Topanga Canyon, called the Parker Mesa Overlook trail.

We covered about 6.4 miles of hike plus another mile of walking to and from our car because parking was a mess. The Parker Mesa trail has some of the steepest hills Andrew and I have encountered on a hike in the city thus far (and the pictures don’t do it justice).

But the view at the end, the overlook rather, was spectacular and well worth the climb.

You’re up above an entire layer of cloud cover (which is breathtaking in itself), but below the clouds you’re able to see all the way from downtown LA to the ocean.

The hike took us a little under 3 hours total. Unfortunately that meant that we missed the farmers’ market. Not to worry, we found plenty of fruit for the week elsewhere. 🙂

Completing two serious hikes in three days will turn your legs to jelly, so yesterday afternoon Andrew and I dropped by LA Fitness to spend some quality time in the hot tub. It felt amazing just to soak and I’m sure our bodies would be in a lot more pain today if it weren’t for that hour of relaxation. (Hour? Half hour? Two hours? Hot tub time machine, ammiright?)
